Hi, I'm Nadege. Bonjou, and welcome.

I was born in Haiti and moved to the United States at ten, with a suitcase full of clothes and a heart full of Haiti. That heart never left. It taught me elegance, pride, and the art of turning an ordinary Tuesday into an occasion. (Haitian aunties do not do "casual.")

These days I call Chicago's West Loop home, but my passport would tell you otherwise. I've stamped my way across six continents and more than 35 countries. Continent number seven is on the horizon. Penguins, I'm coming for you.

I travel for the food, the culture, and the people who stretch my idea of what's possible. I've eaten my way through Michelin-starred dining rooms and street markets with equal joy. I take a cooking class in every country I visit, I still cook the Haitian dishes I grew up on, and wherever I land, I keep an eye out for the other Haitian women out there seeing the world too. (We always find each other.)

One moment stays with me. I was standing above the ocean at the tip of Africa, on South Africa's Western Cape, the wind in my dress and the mountains at my back. The happiness felt like it was rising from the sea itself. Pure fairy tale. And I remember thinking: everyone deserves to feel this.

I felt it again in the hilltop villages of Tuscany and Puglia, in all the small, thoughtful touches that made a stranger feel instantly at home.

That feeling is what Maison Creole Compass is made of.

We work so hard, then hesitate to enjoy what all that work is for. Consider this your permission slip. Every candle, leather piece, and ribbon of silk here was chosen to bring a little of that fairy tale home: a thoughtful gift for someone you love, or a well-earned treat for yourself.
